AI Future of Work Creativity Collaboration

As you start leveraging AI, the value of AI as a co-creator will become clearer.

For most of my life, I've had ideas that were beyond my personal limitations. I would have to sacrifice too much to pursue them, or they would extend beyond my skills and talents.

As an example, I used ChatGPT to create an image of a robot for my first article on 2026-02-11. I have thoughts to share, but I need to work with a graphic artist and editor to create polished posts. No, my thoughts would remain in obscurity.

So I now have a new creative outlet. In the 2026-03-17 post, I asked the robot I now call Lucy to patch up an older, salvaged robot. "She", yes, I'm referring to Lucy as a she, got busy and did it. As part of the process, I asked Claude Code (an AI agent) to help me come up with a name. I got a list of about 10, and Patch was on the list. With some going back and forth, that's where "we" landed.

In the near future, I'll introduce another character. ChatGPT helped me create the image. It didn't exactly follow my instructions, and I couldn't quite get what I was after. But in the end, it may be better. Did I compromise or did I collaborate? If I were working with a human, I would probably experience the same thing--a certain amount of co-creation.

And who am I collaborating with?! Is AI merely a conglomeration of human ideas spit back in a neat package? I don't know, but my focus is my experience, not the tech behind it.

This is why I created the Lucy and Patch series. I can't help myself. This time in history is too important and transformative, and I can't help but think and write about it.

I've been keeping journals for 30 years, but those are for me. Lucy and Patch are for you. Enjoy.
